The Gilmer Lady Cats were on the softball field for one game ahead of fall break.
Gilmer hosted LaFayette last Monday before the rain arrived, and the Ramblers did just about everything right in the 12-0 win.
GHS was down early as LHS struck for three runs in each of the first two innings. A walk, error and fielder’s choice on three straight at-bats led to the 3-0 lead. In the second, the Ramblers actually needed hits. Two of them were triples to go with two singles and LHS led, 6-0.
Gilmer held LaFayette in check in the third, but six runs followed in the fourth. Three consecutive hits started the inning and plated two runs. A Gilmer error came next, and after a walk and double, GHS trailed, 9-0. Two bases loaded walks added more insurance runs, and Gilmer fell behind by 12 on a sacrifice fly.
The game was called after the Cats’ fourth inning when GHS was unable to cut the deficit to fewer than eight runs.
Two Gilmer errors led to four unearned runs for LaFayette. Makayla Martin, Lily Fortune and Phoenix Addie each had a hit for the Cats.
GHS pitching: Fortune 1 2/3 IP, 4 H, 4 ER, 2 BB. Jaylee McDaniel 2/3 IP, 1 ER, 3 BB. Sarah Dale 1 2/3 IP, 5 H, 4 ER, 1 BB.
