Bainbridge gets no mercy

The Gilmer High Lady Cats continued to venture into uncharted soccer territory and thrived. Angelica Castaneda scored three goals The No. 21 seeded Cats were in Bainbridge last Thursday for a Sweet 16 matchup against the No. 5 Bearcats.

86 players out for GHS spring football

Gilmer High School’s spring football practice opened last Tuesday and continued Monday (above). Eighty-six Bobcats are on the roster, and practice wraps up May 14.

State meet next for GHS track

Three Gilmer High Lady Cats are set to continue their seasons at the state meet. GHS was in Fort Valley last Saturday for Class 3A sectionals. Four regions were in attendance, and a top-eight placement was needed to advance to state.

The Gilmer Lady Cats laid the Trojans to waste and a 90-minute weather delay was not near enough to save them. GHS was in Peach County (15-3) to begin the Class 3A state soccer playoffs last Thursday, and the Lady Cats played well above their No. 21 seed. The host Trojans, seeded No.

Ghobad goes back home

Wrestling coach Josh Ghobadpoor is heading back to a familiar place. Ghobadpoor spent eight seasons in the Gilmer High Bobcats’ corner while compiling a 205-45 dual record and leading the program to its 18th and 19th state championships.

Bobcats shut down Cairo

Gilmer High soccer punched its ticket to the second round with a sound victory over Cairo. The GHS Bobcats hosted the Syrupmakers last Friday to begin the Class 3A state playoffs, and it was not a sweet trip for the visitors. GHS controlled the pace of the match and were continually on the attack.

Grangers beat Cats

The Gilmer Bobcats were in LaGrange to begin the baseball state playoffs and returned home with a pair of losses. The doubleheader to start the best of three series was held last Friday, and the hometown Grangers had their offense in order.

Adairsville tennis eliminates GHS

Gilmer High tennis ended its season at the region tournament. The Bobcats and Lady Cats both faced Adairsville and endured first-round losses. The Lady Cats earned one win but fell as a team, 3-1. The Bobcats were downed, 4-0. Senior Lyla Engel notched Gilmer’s win in the No. 2 singles spot.

Sectionals next for Bobcat, Lady Cat track and field

Gilmer High track and field qualified for sectional in 18 events. The initial stage of the state qualifying process took place last Monday and Tuesday at the Region 7-3A Championships in Calhoun. Athletes needed to finish in the top four of their respective event to keep their seasons going.

GHS earns state playoff home match

The Gilmer High Bobcats are set to host their first-ever state playoff soccer match. Gilmer secured the home match by picking up two more wins in the final week of the season. GHS hosted Ringgold last Monday and netted five first-half goals to send the Tigers reeling.
