The Gilmer Bobcats snagged two tennis wins to close out the regular season.
GHS hosted Adairsville April 1 and White County was in town the following day. The Bobcats took both matches by a 3-2 margin while the Lady Cats endured losses of 4-1.
The Bobcats garnered two of their wins against Adairsville on the singles court. No. 2 Alex Miltiades came out on top 6-3, 6-0, while Chase Little claimed a 6-2, 7-5 victory in the No. 3 slot.
Bo Cronic and David Warren were on the court for the No. 2 doubles match to seal the win. They won the first (6-3) and third sets (6-4) and dropped the second (7-5).
Top single Eder Martinez lost a 7-4 tiebreaker and fell in the second set, 6-0. The No. 1 doubles team of Charles Addie and William Evans won the second set, 6-1. However, they dropped the first (6-4) and second (6-3) sets.
Versus White, Martinez won his match in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3. Evans and Addie were victorious (6-3, 6-4) as well and Cronic and Warren won, 6-2, 6-0.
Miltiades took the second set tiebreaker, 7-4, between losses of 6-4 in the first and third sets. Little won his second set as well, 7-5, and fell in the first (6-1) and third (6-3) sets.
For the Lady Cats, No. 1 doubles Bree Burnette and Chelsey Griggs secured their lone win versus Adairsville, 6-3, 6-1. No. 2 doubles Rosalie Ballew and Autumn Spangler lost, 6-2, 6-0.
On the singles court, No. 3 Katelyn Campbell won the lone set of the day in the second, 6-2. She dropped the first (6-2) and third (6-1) sets.
No. 1 single Lyla Engle was defeated (6-2, 6-1), as was No. 2 Madison Bradshaw (6-4, 6-4).
GHS switched up its lineup versus White County. Taking the No. 1 doubles court for the Cats’ only win were Engle and Campbell. They secured a first set win of 6-4 and claimed a second set tiebreaker, 7-1.
No. 2 doubles Addie Duggan and Addison Potter, as well as No. 3 single Spangler were unable to win a game in their matches. Bradshaw was in the No. 1 singles spot and lost, 6-4, 6-0. Ballew won one game in her No. 2 singles match.
The Lady Cats have a 3-10 overall record and are 2-3 versus region opponents. The Bobcats’ record sits at 4-9 overall and 3-2 against the region. GHS started the Region 7-3A tournament Tuesday evening.
