Gilmer High wrapped up the regular season with a track meet in Forsyth County.
There were five girls teams and the GHS Lady Cats secured a runner-up finish with 80 points while the Bobcats were last among the four boys teams.
GHS combined for 16 top-three finishes, and the Lady Cats were the best in three events. Gilmer continued its strong season in throwing events. Senior Amayah Jones won the shot put (35’ 6”) and Lilyan Cook was No. 1 in the discus (104’ 4”).
Freshman Jennifer Garcia won the 3,200-meter run with a time of 13:16.30, and teammate Tara Becerra was third in 18:07.29. Kenzie Sewell was second in the high jump (4’ 10”) and third in the 200 meters (28.48).
In the 400 meters, Sofia El Khorchi nabbed second (1:04.76) and Isabella Evans was third (1:07.23). Jones clocked in at 13.45 for second place in the 100-meter dash. The Cats’ 4x200 team was third in 1:36.46.
For the Bobcats, Hunter Britain was a runner-up in 100 meters at 11.53. Cheyne Smith cleared 11’ in the pole vault for second place, and teammate Jett Burrell was third at 9’ 6”. The Bobcats teamed up for third in the 4x200 relay in 1:36.46.
In the mixed 4x100 relay, the Bobcats and Lady Cats joined forces for second at 55.41.
The Bobcats and Lady Cats began the state qualifying process Monday at the Region 7-3A Championships.
