Indians survive Bobcats

A year after the Gilmer Bobcats defeated Lumpkin County by 55 points, the Indians got revenge. Last Friday’s game in Dahlonega had plenty of offensive fireworks. After the teams traded touchdowns in the opening half, Lumpkin pulled ahead in the second half and led by 10 points on two occasions.

The Clear Creek Bobcats were back at home last Thursday to take on the Lumpkin County Indians. It marked the fifth league football game of the season, and both Clear Creek teams were victorious.

The Gilmer High Lady Cats faced the White County Warriors in the penultimate game of the regular season. GHS made the road trip last Tuesday, and were unable to get much offense going. White’s offense was churning with nine hits on the day and Gilmer fell, 5-0.

Clear Creek Middle School cross-country runners wrapped up their season at the annual North Georgia Mountain League Championships. The event was held at Union County’s Meeks Park last Tuesday, and the CCMS Lady Cats were runners-up while the Bobcats placed third in the boys race.

The Cherokee Bluff Bears were in town, and the Gilmer High Bobcats appeared ready for the fight. GHS hosted the undefeated region foe last Friday, and the Bobcats kept the high-scoring Bears close with its rushing attack.

Gilmer High cross-country was one of seven teams in attendance at the North Georgia Championships. The annual 5K race was held at Clear Creek Middle School last Tuesday. The GHS Bobcats placed third as a team with 81 points, and the Lady Cats finished fifth on the girls side with 106 points.

The Gilmer High Lady Cats played four region softball games last week and came up short each time. GHS was on the road Monday at Lumpkin County, and the Indians did just enough for a 2-1 win.

The Gilmer High Lady Cats were on the court for eight more volleyball matches last week. GHS made its way to West Hall Tuesday and met the host Spartans and Dawson County Tigers for area matches. West Hall took down the Cats 2-1 and Dawson came out on top, 2-0.

The Clear Creek eighth-grade Bobcats earned a much-needed football victory last week. CCMS traveled to White County Thursday to battle the Warriors. Four quarters were not enough to decide a winner, and after two overtime periods and a goal line stand, the Bobcats secured a 42-40 win.
