Rec Football Round Up

Gilmer rec football players were in Fannin County for week two of the season. The Bobcats and host Rebels each won three games on the day, which started with Gilmer victories in the first (26-0) and second grade (14-6) games. The Cats also came out on top in the fifth-grade contest, 13-6.

Busy week for Clear Creek

Clear Creek Middle School volleyball entered its league tournament as the three seed last Saturday and came away with a runner-up placement. CCMS met Dawson County in the opening round and split the first two sets before the Cats claimed the deciding set for the win.

Gilmer High Lady Cats sink Vikings, 2-1

The Gilmer High Lady Cats were on the volleyball court last week for four matches, which included two versus area opponents. Those area matchups took place Tuesday when GHS made its way to North Hall and defeated the East Hall Vikings 2-1 while dropping its match against the host Trojans, 2-0.

Bobcats win thriller over East Jackson

Just when it appeared their hopes were dashed, the Gilmer High Bobcats came back. GHS hosted the East Jackson Eagles last Friday in a football game that saw eight lead changes and four touchdowns scored in the final quarter.

GHS volleyball faces two rivals

The Lady Cats met a pair of old rivals when they faced the Pickens Dragonettes and host Fannin County on the volleyball court last Thursday.

7th grade Cats wreck Pickens

The battle of Clear Creek and Pickens middle school football broke out last Thursday. CCMS hosted the visiting Dragons, and each school came away with a decisive victory. Clear Creek’s eighth graders trailed PCMS throughout, and Bobcat turnovers turned into Dragons touchdowns in the second half.

Gilmer High softball drops three region games

The Gilmer High Lady Cats were saddled with a pair of region losses last week. The Cats were in North Hall Thursday, and the Trojans mounted a last-inning comeback for a 5-4 victory. Gilmer was missing three starters and multiple backups versus Dawson Saturday.

Rec football season opens vs. Dawson

The Gilmer Bobcats opened their rec football seasons at home last Saturday versus Dawson County. Teams are divided by grades this season rather than ages, and Gilmer’s second graders won 18-14, while the fifth-grade Bobcats came out on top, 19-0.

Bobcats power through Murray, 34-21

The Gilmer Bobcats took care of business against the Murray County Indians last Friday. GHS controlled the pace of the game with its deliberate rushing attack while the defense held Murray scoreless in the first half.

7th grade Cats trounce Dawson

Clear Creek Middle School hit the road for its football opener. The Bobcats were hosted by the Dawson County Tigers and each team earned a victory. The eighth-grade was up first, and DCMS connected on a long pass in the second half and held on for a 7-0 win.
