Disney Duals mark end of summer wrestling

The Gilmer High Bobcats capped their summer wrestling schedule with a trip to the Disney Duals. Gilmer made its way to Orlando for the heralded three-day event June 25-27. GHS took the mat for 11 duals and came away with a 6-5 record after a difficult opening day.

Team Cartecay biking volunteers recognized

It takes hearts of service to make the Gilmer Cartecay Youth Mountain Bike Team a success. While Team Cartecay has earned success racing, it has also been fostering a heart for championing service to the community.

Emily Hancock will suit up for the Life University Running Eagles next track season. The 2021 Gilmer High honor graduate ran hurdles, pole vaulted and was a member of the record setting 4x400 relay team during her time as a Lady Cat.

All 8 Gilmer swimmers heading to state

All eight Gilmer Swim Team members who attended district will continue their seasons at the state meet. The Georgia Recreation and Park Association’s District 5 meet was held last Saturday at the Calhoun Aquatic Center and four teams were in attendance.

Pivotal summer for Lady Cats on hardwood

Head coach Susan Nunn and staff spent the summer bringing everyone up to speed. The Lady Cats graduated four starters off last season’s basketball team that played for a region championship and advanced to the Sweet 16. Gilmer hit the court June 7, the earliest date allowed by the GHSA.

Gilmer hosts 7-on-7 passing

The Gilmer High Bobcats have entered the third week of their voluntary summer football schedule. First-year GHS head coach Paul Standard and his eight assistants — five of which who are new to the program — have put the Bobcats through their paces as they prepare for the fast-approaching season.

Tedders back on Lady Cats’ bench

Eric Tedders has returned as softball head coach of the Gilmer High School Lady Cats. Tedders, who just wrapped up his 15th year as an educator, previously held the head coaching position for five seasons from 2007 through 2011.

GHS wrestling gears up for Disney Duals

Gilmer High wrestling is one of eight athletic programs at the school taking advantage of the summer months. The GHS Bobcats began their voluntary summer training June 7 and it will conclude June 27 with a trip to Orlando, Fla., for the Disney Duals.

Gilmer High School’s youth summer camp season began this month. Two sports remain, and football camp will be held July 12-14 from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Huff-Mosley Memorial Stadium. The cost is $50 and includes a camp T-shirt.
