Gilmer High School honor graduate John Nix will continue his academic and soccer endeavors at Lander University.

Nix makes GHS Bobcat soccer history

When John Nix accepted a college soccer scholarship to Lander University, it was a historic moment for Gilmer High School. Nix, a 2021 GHS honor graduate, is the first boys soccer player in the 17-year history of the program to go on to play in college.

Gilmer High School is set to kick off its youth summer camp season. For fall sports, football camp will be held July 12-14 from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Huff-Mosley Memorial Stadium. The cost is $50 and includes a camp T-shirt. Cheerleading will hold its camp from June 14-17 from 9 a.m.

After losing most of their baseball season to the pandemic in 2020, Brooks Rosser and his Truett-McConnell University teammates were back on the diamond for 2021.

Spring ends for Bobcat football

Gilmer High wrapped up its spring football practice last Wednesday. It was a time to not only get acquainted with personalities, but with methods and procedures.
Along with coach Rodney Thurman, from left are Gilmer High School Rocket League players Canyon Adams, Holden Vines, Austin Long and Jackson Fountain. They teamed up last Wednesday to help GHS finish second in the Rocket League portion of the Georgia High School Association’s Spring Esports State Championships.

Gilmer High School is home to Georgia’s second best Rocket League team. The GHS Bobcats earned their runner-up spot at the Georgia High School Association’s Spring Esports State Championships against Lambert High School.

State meet caps Gilmer High’s track season

The curtain has fallen on the spring sports season. Gilmer High made its way to the Georgia High School Association’s Track and Field State Championships last week. Over a three-day span, Class 3A athletes slugged it out at Hugh Mills Stadium in Albany.

Standard talks GHS spring football
