The Gilmer High Bobcats are off to a 4-0 start to the basketball season and added a tournament title to their resume. GHS was in Fannin County last week for the ETC/Piedmont Mountainside Tip-off Tournament. Gilmer first met Pickens Saturday, Nov. 20, and toppled the Dragons, 60-53.

The annual ETC/Piedmont Mountainside Tip-off Tournament was a meeting of old basketball rivals. The Gilmer High Lady Cats faced Pickens first Saturday, Nov. 20. After a sluggish second quarter, GHS was unable to recover and lost, 56-50.

GHS enters new region next fall

Gilmer High will have a set of new region opponents starting with the 2022-2023 school year. The Georgia High School Association reclassified its member schools by enrollment in October and announced new region assignments Nov. 12.

Gilmer High wrestlers were in Acworth last Saturday for Allatoona’s Blackbeard Duals. The Bobcats were without three starters, and while two of those spots were filled by backups, the 106-pound spot remained vacant, and GHS fortified six points versus each opponent.

Coach Jordan Hice has a veteran group of players at his disposal this year. The Gilmer High Bobcats began their basketball season last week, and there are 24 players in the program, which includes nine freshmen.

Head coach Susan Nunn enters the 2021-2022 basketball season with some unknowns on her varsity roster. The Gilmer High Lady Cats graduated four starters off last season’s state tournament team, and much of the offseason was spent filling those vacant spots.

Fannin tops CCMS 7th, 8th grade Lady Cats

Clear Creek Middle School met an old rival last Monday in the Fannin County Rebels. The Lady Cats made the trip to Blue Ridge, and the hometown Rebs earned a pair of wins. CCMS seventh graders dropped their game 36-22 before the eighth-grade Cats lost, 52-23.

The 17-time state champion Bobcats enter the wrestling season with one goal in mind, and that is to add more hardware to their trophy case. Josh Ghobadpoor begins his fifth season as head coach at Gilmer High School, home to one of the proudest wrestling heritages in the state.
