Warriors down Cats in final region game

The White County Warriors had enough playmakers in the right positions to run away from the Gilmer High Bobcats. The Warriors jumped ahead early and built a solid four-score edge by the half.

The Gilmer High cross-country season came to an end last week. The GHS Bobcats and Lady Cats traveled to Unicoi State Park Wednesday for the Region 7-3A Championships. A top-four team placement or a top-six individual finish was needed to qualify for state.

The fifth-grade Gilmer Bobcats will continue their football season in the playoffs. Gilmer ended the regular season last Saturday in Lumpkin County and pounded the Indians for a 32-6 victory. The fourth-grade Cats trounced Lumpkin, 26-0.

Gilmer Bobcats outlast Spartans, 26-21

The Spartans’ Hail Mary prayer at the end of the game last Friday appeared to be answered. A final heave into the end zone as time expired was tipped by a Gilmer High Bobcat before the ball fell into the hands of a West Hall receiver.

Injuries, illness continue to hamper Gilmer cheer

The competition cheer season continued last Saturday in Dawson County, and Gilmer High was forced to hobble through another event. GHS has been hit hard by seasonal illness and injuries, and their lineup needed more adjustments.

Three Gilmer rec football teams earn wins

Gilmer rec football hosted six games at Huff-Mosley Memorial Stadium last Saturday. Three different opponents made the trip, and Gilmer’s teams combined to post a 3-3 record. Fifth-grader Cal Morrison (6) recovers a fumble to dash Pickens’ comeback hopes.

GHS Cats unable to contain Trojan attack

Gilmer High ran into another one of the region’s top teams last Friday night. The GHS Bobcats made the trip to face the North Hall Trojans for their fourth region matchup of the season. Gilmer found itself down immediately as the Trojans’ powerful ground game produced quick touchdowns.

CCMS 7th grade in championship game

The seventh-grade Bobcats punched their ticket to the Mountain Athletic Conference’s championship game. Clear Creek hosted the Fannin County Rebels last Wednesday in the semifinals, and the one-sided game ended with the Bobcats coming out on top, 38-0. “Fannin played pretty tough.

GHS races in crowded field at Mountain Inv.

Gilmer High made the trek to Helen last Tuesday for the Mountain Invitational. The annual 5K race attracted 20 varsity teams, and the Bobcats finished 12th with 283 points. The GHS Lady Cats secured a 16th place finish with 377. Gilmer’s Zachary Bobak placed 24th in 18:57.70 and was the No.
