GHS cheer takes first at Creekview competition

Gilmer High School cheerleaders returned with some first-place hardware from their latest competition. GHS was in Canton at Creekview High School Saturday for its second event of the season. Gilmer was in a section with eight teams and came away with first place.

CCMS 8th graders fall to Pickens in semifinals

The Clear Creek eighth-grade Bobcats met the undefeated Pickens Dragons last Thursday. The meeting marked the semifinals of the Mountain Athletic Conference, and the Dragons defended their home turf.

The Gilmer Bobcats hosted Dawson County last Friday, and the visiting Tigers proved to be unruly homecoming guests. Dawson had a capable running and passing attack that kept GHS off balance all night and scored on six of seven first-half possessions to build a formidable lead.

The Clear Creek eighth-grade Bobcats took the football field for a final time ahead of their playoff matchup. CCMS hosted Union County last Thursday, and the winless Panthers got off to a hot start to make a game out of it.

The COVID-19 pandemic made for an interesting competition cheer season last school year. This season got off to a rocky start as well, and head coach Naomi Esparza was without most of her team in August because of positive cases and quarantines.

The Gilmer High Lady Cats had their work cut out when they entered last week’s area volleyball tournament. The event was held Wednesday at North Hall High School, and the No. 7 seeded Lady Cats faced No. 2 seed Lumpkin County in the opening round. After a 2-0 defeat, GHS met No.

GHS Lady Cat softball concludes with Dawson defeat

The Gilmer High Lady Cats’ softball season ended on the road last Friday. A year removed from a region title, GHS missed the state tournament this time around, and Dawson County was its final destination. The Tigers jumped ahead in the first inning, and Gilmer got a run back in the fourth.

Indians survive Bobcats

A year after the Gilmer Bobcats defeated Lumpkin County by 55 points, the Indians got revenge. Last Friday’s game in Dahlonega had plenty of offensive fireworks. After the teams traded touchdowns in the opening half, Lumpkin pulled ahead in the second half and led by 10 points on two occasions.

CCMS 7th, 8th graders thump Lumpkin Co.

The Clear Creek Bobcats were back at home last Thursday to take on the Lumpkin County Indians. It marked the fifth league football game of the season, and both Clear Creek teams were victorious.

Dawson Co. Tigers up next for GHS

The Gilmer High Lady Cats faced the White County Warriors in the penultimate game of the regular season. GHS made the road trip last Tuesday, and were unable to get much offense going. White’s offense was churning with nine hits on the day and Gilmer fell, 5-0.
