GHS wraps up flag football season

Gilmer flag football wrapped up its inaugural season with two more league matchups. Gilmer’s Mary Grace Jones makes a tackle. GHS was in Fannin County last Thursday and also faced Dawson County. The host Rebels won 27-7 in the nightcap, while Dawson secured a 25-6 victory.

Gilmer swimmers strive for state qualifying times

Gilmer High swimmers got in the holiday spirit at Cherokee County’s Gobble Invite. The eight-team meet was held Nov. 15, and the GHS Lady Cats placed fifth (42 points) and the Bobcats landed in eighth (nine). The Lady Cats competed in five relays.

Gilmer basketball learning on the fly

The Bobcats hit the road once again for a pair of nonregion games. Gilmer was in Union County last Tuesday, and the Panthers ran away with a 82-47 win. GHS traveled to Murray County Thursday and the Indians overtook the Bobcats in the second quarter.

Astros survive Bobcats, 19-15

The Gilmer Bobcats were defeated for the final time, and they did not go quietly. GHS began the Class 3A state football playoffs as the No. 22 seed and hit the road to take on No. 11 Fredrick Douglass High School (8-3) in Atlanta.

Gilmer basketball readies with Glaze

It has been a whirlwind preseason for the Gilmer Bobcats. Sean Glaze enters his first season as the Bobcats head coach, and his short time with the program was recently cut back even more. Glaze took over for Jordan Hice, who resigned at the end of June as the program’s all-time wins leader.

GHS wrestling starts season 3-1

Gilmer High wrestlers hit the road to begin the season. The GHS Bobcats made the short trip south to Pickens last Saturday and posted a 3-1 record in four duals.

Lady Cats have high expectations

The Gilmer Lady Cats returned to the state basketball tournament last season, and they are looking for more success this go-around. David Dowse enters his second year as the Cats’ head coach, and last season’s 16 victories and state berth were the program’s most and first since 2021.

CCMS Lady Cats have perfect week

It was a clean sweep for the Clear Creek Lady Cats on the basketball court. CCMS faced Pickens and Dawson last week, and the former was up first. The seventh graders won 30-26, while the eighth-grade Cats came out on top, 39-27. Versus Dawson, both were landslide wins for the Cats.
