The Gilmer Lady Cats returned to the state basketball tournament last season, and they are looking for more success this go-around.
David Dowse enters his second year as the Cats’ head coach, and last season’s 16 victories and state berth were the program’s most and first since 2021.

CCMS Lady Cats have perfect week

It was a clean sweep for the Clear Creek Lady Cats on the basketball court.
CCMS faced Pickens and Dawson last week, and the former was up first. The seventh graders won 30-26, while the eighth-grade Cats came out on top, 39-27. Versus Dawson, both were landslide wins for the Cats.

The Gilmer Lady Cats claimed two medal spots and included a tournament champion at their latest wrestling event.
GHS attended the Campbell Lady Spartan Invitational last Saturday. Abelinda Tercero (135 pounds) rolled through her bracket for first place.

Ellijay’s Jackson McVey has begun the next chapter of his basketball saga.
He started at Gilmer High where he helped the Bobcats to its only region championship and three trips to the state tournament while hauling in a trove of school records.

The Caleb Waddell era of Gilmer High School wrestling is underway.
Gilmer is set to open its season this week, and preparations have been long in the making. The 19-time state champion Bobcats placed in the top six at state duals a season ago as they greatly surpassed expectations.

Lady Cat XC finishes 15th at state meet

Gilmer High cross-country ended its season as the 15th best team in the state.

The Gilmer High girls wrestling program has continually been near the top of the sport.
GHS graduated 18 wrestlers combined over the past two seasons, and this year head coach Stacy Galloway has stressed fundamentals and growth with a young roster.

Clear Creek Middle School took on Lumpkin County for some Mountain League basketball action.
The Bobcats made the trip last Thursday and earned a pair of wins. The seventh graders pulled away in the second quarter and never looked back in a 44-20 victory.
