Voters in Ellijay and East Ellijay will head to the polls Tuesday, Nov. 7.
Candidates for mayor and city council will be on the ballots for both cities.
In Ellijay, Election Day voting will be done at the Gilmer County Civic Center, 1561 South Main Street.

County’s Veterans Day events set for Nov. 10

Gilmer County will be saluting its military veterans one day early this year.
Veterans Day is Saturday, Nov. 11, but the community Veterans Day parade, honorary program and other events will all be held Friday, Nov. 10. The parade and program are open to the public to attend.

Serving an early Thanksgiving dinner is one local nonprofit’s way of continuing to say “thank you” to the whole community.
The annual Thanksgiving feast coordinated by Faith, Hope and Charity Recycle Store will return to the Ellijay First Baptist Church (FBC) Fellowship Hall Saturday, Nov. 11.

Ellijay council approves ’24 budget, sets millage rate

Ellijay City Councilmembers approved the city budget for 2024, while also setting a millage rate for this year, during a special called meeting last week.
The 2023 millage rate of 1.89 is based on the current rollback rate, confirmed Mayor Al Hoyle.

Clear skies and crisp fall weather helped draw approximately 27,000 to the Lions Club Fairgrounds for the second weekend of the 52nd annual Georgia Apple Festival Oct. 21-22. In all, approximately 57,000 attended over the two festival weekends, according to the Gilmer Chamber.

Gilmer County employee insurance up 22 percent

Gilmer County commissioners have voted to accept an employee insurance benefit plan which increases 22 percent over last year.
“Let me say, too, that has been a long and arduous process because they started out right around 70 again,” said Gilmer County Chair Charlie Paris.

Pritchard, who was a candidate for the State House District 7 won by Johnny Chastain, is serving as the vice chair of the Georgia Republican Party.

Hwy. 515 accident still under investigation

An accident which occurred on Hwy. 515 is still under investigation by the Georgia State Patrol’s Specialized Collision Reconstruction Teams.
