Board finalizes changes to proposed ordinances

At a special called meeting, commissioners put the finishing touches on ordinances being proposed for a vote this week. Gilmer County is currently under a moratorium for crypto and data mining. Commissioners agreed to the final details of a proposed crypto ordinance at the special meeting Nov. 2.

New community merchants group started

A new local merchants association has formed, and it will continue to present two of Ellijay’s yearly parades, while also planning other local events. Engage! (or Engage in Gilmer) comes on the heels of the Downtown Ellijay Business and Community Association (DEBCA).

Water authority board hears project updates

By Michael Andrews Mountain Life Editor   Ellijay Gilmer County Water and Sewerage Authority (EGCWSA) board members heard updates on three ongoing water line projects when meeting last Monday.

Pet food pantry welcomes donations

An arm of the Gilmer Community Food Pantry that gives pet food to dog and cat owners who receive their own food from the pantry could use a helping hand.

Election results

Unofficial results for the two city elections decided Tuesday, Nov. 7, are as follows:  In Ellijay, incumbent Mayor Al Hoyle (174 votes) won by a narrow margin over challenger Sandy Ott (171 votes).  There may be a recount in this race depending on if the candidates request it.

Garden at local school honors Noah West

When Noah West unexpectedly passed away Oct. 11, he left behind grieving family and friends among fellow Boy Scouts in Troop 440 and classmates at Gilmer High School.

Warming center ready to open if need arises

Temperatures haven’t dropped to wintertime lows quite yet, although the forecast says they might just after Halloween.  A team of volunteers that mans the Gilmer Warming Center is already prepared for when the cold arrives.
