County observes Sexual Assault Awareness Month

During a time when increased sexual and domestic violence cases continue to be seen, the North Georgia Mountain Crisis Network (NGMCN) wants residents of Gilmer, Pickens and Fannin counties to be aware of the services it offers to victims of these crimes.

Ellijay City Councilmembers gave a landscape architecture design firm the go-ahead to start working on plans to improve the general roundabout area, as well as pedestrian safety downtown, when meeting Monday, April 19.

Animal shelter, FOGAS to start trap, fix and release program for feral cats

The Gilmer County Animal Shelter and its “friends of” group (FOGAS) are partnering for a first-time program that’s hoped to reduce an overpopulation of feral cats in the county. Animal shelter staff will soon begin humanely trapping feral cats at the request of local residents.

Gilmer Schools hire search firm

The search for Gilmer County’s next superintendent is under way. The Gilmer County Board of Education unanimously approved to hire the search firm King-Cooper and Associates last Thursday to assist in the process. King-Cooper aided the search for current superintendent Dr.

Gilmer a likely site for 17-year cicada emergence

Like a solar eclipse or visible comet, the emergence of periodical cicadas is one of those natural happenings that only comes along every so often. For Brood X Cicadas, every-so-often is a 17-year cycle that will conclude and reset this year.
