Summer vacation has arrived for the county’s students, and Gilmer High School will hold its annual slate of summer youth sports camps starting next week.
Girls basketball camp will be June 6-8 at the GHS gym from noon to 3 p.m. The camp is open to girls entering kindergarten through sixth grade and the cost is $50. Payments can be made at MyPaymentPlus.com. For more information, contact coach Dani Wright at dani.wright@gilmerschools.com.
Cheerleading camp will be June 12-15 at the Larry Walker Education Center’s gym from 9 a.m. to noon. The camp is open to girls who are 4 years old (as of June 11) through rising sixth graders. The cost is $55 if preregistered (forms can be sent to ghss pirit1@gmail.com) and $65 on the first day of camp. Those not preregistered should arrive at 8:15 a.m. on the first day.
Multiple child discounts are available to those living in the same household. Checks should be made payable to GHS Spirit Boosters. Campers are advised to wear comfortable clothes and tennis shoes. Sandals and flip-flops are not permitted.
Soccer camp will be June 11-13 at Huff-Mosley Memorial Stadium from 6 to 8 p.m. The camp is open to boys and girls entering pre-K through eighth grade and the cost is $60. Gilmer’s Homegrown Wrestling Camp will be June 16-17 at the Noah Harris Center from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The camp will be led by Matthew Waddell and Caleb Waddell, who both succeeded at the state and national levels while at GHS before wrestling in the NCAA Division I ranks.

Football camp will be June 20-22 from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Huff-Mosley Memorial Stadium. The camp is open to rising first through eighth graders and the cost is $50. Checks should be made payable to the Gilmer Touchdown Club.
Campers are encouraged to bring cleats and gym shoes and to wear a T-shirt, shorts and socks. Campers are advised to bring no more than $4 in pocket money for snacks/drinks. The campers should not bring watches, any jewelry or other small articles of value, which could be lost easily.

Baseball camp will be June 26-28 from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Gilmer Baseball Field located on the GHS campus. The camp is open to boys entering first through eighth grade and the cost is $60. Checks should be made payable to the Gilmer Dugout Club and can be mailed to: Attn: Jeff Thurman, 408 Bobcat Trail, Ellijay, GA 30540.
Campers are encouraged to wear cleats or tennis shoes, baseball pants and bring a glove, bat, helmet (optional), catcher’s gear and plenty of energy.
The baseball program will also hold a father/son camp June 17 from 8 a.m. to noon. The camp is open to boys entering kindergarten through 12th grade and their fathers (or male mentor) and cost is $30.

The Gilmer Running Club is open to everyone, and it will meet on the playground side of River Park Monday through Friday from 7 to 9 a.m. beginning June 5. Runners are welcome to attend at any time during the alloted hours, and those who run more than 100 miles during the summer will receive a free T-shirt.
