Gilmer golf wins home match

Gilmer High was back on its home course for the third golf match of the season. GHS hosted the Southeast Whitfield Raiders and Murray County Indians last Thursday at Whitepath. The Bobcats’ score of 195 bested Murray (211) and Southeast (214). The Lady Cats’ posted a score of 158.

Bobcats clinch playoff spot

The Gilmer Bobcats have secured a soccer state playoff berth. GHS was in Pickens last Friday to take on the winless Dragons, and the Bobcats made sure their rough season continued. The Bobcats took a two-goal lead into the half and continued to pour it on over the final 40 minutes for a 6-0 win.

McVey receives all-state honorable mention

Gilmer High’s Jackson McVey has received an all-state basketball honorable mention from Sandysspiel.com. The 7’ sophomore post player was one of 21 players in Class 3A to be recognized. McVey’s latest honor comes after he was voted to the All-Region 7-3A first team last month.

GHS Lady Cats shut down Dragonettes, 3-0

The Gilmer Lady Cats got their first region soccer win of the season. GHS was in Pickens last Friday to face the Dragonettes. The rivalry battle turned out to be a one-sided affair as the Cats came away with a decisive 3-0 victory. Gilmer hosted Lumpkin County for senior night three days earlier.

GHS baseball drops 3 games vs. Lumpkin

Gilmer High is in search of its first region baseball win. The Bobcats were on the field for three games against the Lumpkin County Indians last week, and errors hurt the Bobcats’ cause in games one and two.

Gilmer golf faces Dragons, Phoenix

Gilmer High golfers were back on the course at Bent Tree. GHS made its way south for the three-team, nine-hole event last Tuesday to face host Pickens and Sonoraville. The Gilmer Lady Cats finished second behind Pickens, 155-175, and Sonoraville was third (180).

Gilmer tennis falls to Wesleyan to end regular season

Gilmer faced the region’s best tennis team to end the regular season. The GHS Bobcats and Lady Cats hosted Wesleyan last Tuesday, and the visiting Wolves were undefeated on the day. Wesleyan won all 10 matches in straight sets.

Bobcat soccer improves to 2-1 in region

The Gilmer High Bobcats have put themselves in favorable position to return to the postseason. GHS kicked off its region soccer schedule last week, and the Lumpkin County Indians were up first Tuesday. After falling behind early, the Cats rallied in the second half for a 2-1 victory.

Clear Creek Middle hosts inaugural track invitational

Seven teams squared off to decide the Middle School Mountain Invitational. Clear Creek hosted the inaugural track event last Saturday at Huff-Mosley Memorial Stadium under cold and breezy conditions. Dalton earned dual titles as their boys (66 points) and girls (62.3) led the way.

GHS tennis wins pair on senior night

The Gilmer High Bobcats and Lady Cats both served a loss to a region opponent. GHS hosted White County last Tuesday for senior night, and the Bobcats rolled to a 4-1 win, and the Lady Cats came away with a 3-2 victory.
