Bobcat wrestlers survive crowded field

Gilmer High wrestlers welcomed eight schools to its gym last week for the Bobcat Duals.  The tournament attracted multiple teams who found themselves at the state tournament across different classifications last season.

Clear Creek pins league foes

Clear Creek Middle School wrestlers took to the mat for a pair of home duals before Thanksgiving. The Bobcats hosted Pickens Nov. 19 and roasted the Dragons, 84-9. White County was in town two days later, and the Warriors suffered the same fate as they lost to CCMS, 59-21.

JV Lady Cats take tip-off title

While their older teammates finished second, the junior varsity Lady Cats posted a 2-0 record to take the JV tip-off tournament title. Gilmer High played Hiwassee Dam, N.C., last Monday to begin the event and ran away with a 47-28 victory.

Lady Cats crush Pickens

When the Gilmer High Lady Cats took care of the basketball, there was little doubt as to who the better team was last Saturday. GHS squared off against the Pickens Dragonettes to begin the ETC/Piedmont Mountainside Tip-off Tournament, and once the Cats settled in, they put the game away.

Free throws doom Bobcats

The Gilmer High Bobcats missed free throws and missed beating Pickens. GHS began the ETC/Piedmont Mountainside Tip-off Tournament against the Dragons last Saturday and missed 15 shots from the foul line.

Times continue to drop for GHS swimmers

Seasonal illness hit the Gilmer High Swim team hard as they attended last week’s meet shorthanded. GHS made its way to the six-team meet at the Cherokee County Aquatic Center Friday and came away with two first-place finishes and more personal best times.

Gilmer High wrestling claimed its first dual tournament title of the season. The Bobcats made their way to Cherokee High School last Saturday and finished with an undefeated record.

Clear Creek cheer returns to competitive scene

Clear Creek Middle School returned to the competition cheer scene after a five-year hiatus.  Cheerleaders began working on their routine in June. They attended the Creekview Classic and South Forsyth Cheer Classic in October before making their way to the Dawson Tiger Cheer Classic in November.
