Clear Creek meets old rivals on basketball court

Clear Creek Middle School began its basketball season last week with games against Fannin County and Pickens. The seventh-grade Bobcats were victorious in both games and downed Fannin, 46-27, and Pickens, 56-26. The eighth graders defeated Fannin, 48-34, but fell to Pickens, 55-10.

CCMS wrestling off and winning

Clear Creek Middle School wrestlers were on the mat to begin the season at Chestatee Middle School Nov. 2. The traditional event saw CCMS walk away with 12 champions. The Bobcats were at home three days later for a dual versus the Union County Panthers. CCMS won 10 of 16 bouts for a 54-36 victory.

Panthers score 24 unanswered points to snatch win

For nearly three quarters, it seemed like it was going to be Gilmer’s night. The Bobcats hosted Ridgeland for senior night last Friday, and the explosive Panthers were held in check for much of the game.

Gilmer battles course, cold temps at state XC meet

Gilmer High cross-country runners made their way to Carrollton last Friday for the Class 4A state meet. The GHS Bobcats and Lady Cats both competed in a field of 32 teams and turned in respective placements of 23rd and 24th. “We did pretty good,” coach Tommy Jones said of their performances.

10U Bobcats advance to title game

Three Gilmer teams hit the gridiron for the Mountain Football League’s semifinals, and one will play for a title this week. Last Saturday’s semifinals were held at Fannin  County and Gilmer high schools.

Gilmer High cheer takes 1st ahead of region competition

Gilmer High School’s competition cheerleaders turned in their best performance of the season. GHS traveled to Dawson County High School last Saturday and finished atop the Class 4A standings. Gilmer scored 69.

The Gilmer High Bobcats and Lady Cats have made a habit of qualifying for the state cross-country meet, and both will be in attendance again this season.

Gilmer High Bobcats bogged in 6-0 loss to Northwest

Last Friday’s rain showers turned Northwest Whitfield’s football field into a sprawling morass. The Bruins hosted the Gilmer High Bobcats for a game that pitted two teams against each other who are battling for a state playoff spot.

Mountain bike team readies for state race

A fine and steady rain soaked the Watkinsville area Saturday, Oct. 19, forcing the Georgia League to creatively combine two scheduled days of racing into one, with 983 student athletes across 65 teams, taking to the trails in an extraordinary demonstration of cooperation and shared purpose.

Junior varsity Bobcats win season finale

For the second time this season, the Gilmer High junior varsity Bobcats defeated the Southeast Whitfield Raiders. The two squared off at Huff-Mosley Memorial Stadium last Thursday for the Bobcats’ season finale, and the hometown fans were not disappointed.
