Gilmer High Bobcats bogged in 6-0 loss to Northwest

Last Friday’s rain showers turned Northwest Whitfield’s football field into a sprawling morass. The Bruins hosted the Gilmer High Bobcats for a game that pitted two teams against each other who are battling for a state playoff spot.

Mountain bike team readies for state race

A fine and steady rain soaked the Watkinsville area Saturday, Oct. 19, forcing the Georgia League to creatively combine two scheduled days of racing into one, with 983 student athletes across 65 teams, taking to the trails in an extraordinary demonstration of cooperation and shared purpose.

Junior varsity Bobcats win season finale

For the second time this season, the Gilmer High junior varsity Bobcats defeated the Southeast Whitfield Raiders. The two squared off at Huff-Mosley Memorial Stadium last Thursday for the Bobcats’ season finale, and the hometown fans were not disappointed.

Generals pass their way past Bobcats

The Heritage Generals marched into Huff-Mosley Memorial Stadium last Friday with a potent passing attack. While Gilmer High came out ahead on the stat sheet, it was quarterback  Nick Hanson’s accuracy and the Generals’ big-play ability that allowed them to come out ahead on the scoreboard.

Gilmer High volleyball season ends at Region 6-4A tournament

The Gilmer Lady Cats entered the Region 6-4A volleyball tournament with their season on the line. GHS was the No. 5 seed and faced the No. 2 seeded LaFayette Ramblers in the first round and lost in straight sets.

GHS Bobcats nab elusive region win

For the first time since the 2015 season, the Gilmer High Bobcats have won a Region 6-4A football game. GHS hit the road last Friday to take on Southeast Whitfield and the Raiders celebrated homecoming. Despite the festive atmosphere at halftime, it was the Bobcats who reveled in victory.

Madison Co. ousts Lady Cats from state tourney

The Gilmer High Lady Cats’ return to the Class 4A state softball tournament pitted them against the No. 8 ranked Madison County Red Raiders. GHS made the 100-plus mile trek last Tuesday for a doubleheader to begin the best-of-three series.

Rec football has winning week

Gilmer rec football teams earned three wins last Saturday in week six of the Mountain Football League. The 6-under Bobcats snatched their first victory of the season by beating Dawson County, 14-6. The 9U’s game against the East Hall Vikings needed overtime where the Bobcats won, 34-28.

Back at state, Cats draw No. 8 Madison

The Pickens Dragonettes stood in their way, but only momentarily. The Gilmer High Lady Cats met their archrival at home last Monday to begin the Region 6-4A softball tournament. The winner of the best-of-three series advanced to the state tournament, and the Cats defended their turf.
