Seasonal illness hit the Gilmer High Swim team hard as they attended last week’s meet shorthanded. GHS made its way to the six-team meet at the Cherokee County Aquatic Center Friday and came away with two first-place finishes and more personal best times.

Gilmer High wrestling claimed its first dual tournament title of the season. The Bobcats made their way to Cherokee High School last Saturday and finished with an undefeated record.

Clear Creek cheer returns to competitive scene

Clear Creek Middle School returned to the competition cheer scene after a five-year hiatus.  Cheerleaders began working on their routine in June. They attended the Creekview Classic and South Forsyth Cheer Classic in October before making their way to the Dawson Tiger Cheer Classic in November.

Gilmer High School will compete in a new athletic classification and region beginning next fall. Georgia High School Association schools reported their enrollment last month, and the organization compiled and released the data Nov. 5. Gilmer High reported an enrollment of 1,191.

GHS Bobcats reshuffle roster

Over the past two seasons, Gilmer High basketball has depended on a group of upperclassmen who are no longer with the program. GHS graduated seven seniors off last season’s 17-9 team that was upset at the region tournament after entering the event as the No. 2 seed.

Gilmer Lady Cats have ‘unfinished business’ in ’19-’20

The Gilmer Lady Cats are looking for more than just a trip to the state basketball tournament this season. GHS has reached the postseason six years in a  row, and coach Susan Nunn and the Cats hope to be more than a “one-and-done” team this year.

Gilmer High School cheerleaders completed their competitive season last Friday at the Columbus Civic Center. GHS took the floor for the Class 4A state sectionals and scored 64.5 points. A safety infraction brought their total down to 54.5 for an 18th place finish out of the 24 teams in attendance.

GHS Bobcats battle for 2nd at ‘Blackbeard’

The Gilmer Bobcats came home with a second-place finish from their first dual wrestling tournament of the season. GHS attended the Blackbeard Duals at Allatoona High School last Saturday and posted a 4-1 record. The event attracted 12 teams that were placed in pools of three.
Bobcat Connor Richards (above) and Lady Cat Cadence Mohon (below) swim at Calhoun last Thursday. Richards cut his 50-yard freestyle time from 36.37 to 33.83 while Mohon helped Lady Cat relay teams secure top three placements.

Gilmer High’s Payton Woodring qualified for two more state swimming events while her Bobcat and Lady Cat teammates continued to shed seconds off their times. GHS attended a five-team meet last Thursday at Calhoun High School. Woodring’s qualifying streak continued in the 50-yard freestyle.
