Gilmer High alum Chris James has garnered some preseason attention ahead of the college football season.
James is entering his final season at the University of Tennessee — Chattanooga. The website HeroSports.com named him to its Football Championship Subdivision’s preseason All-American third team.
He was granted a sixth year of eligibility by the NCAA after receiving a medial hardship waiver for injuries sustained earlier in his career.
James made the most of last season after switching from quarterback to tight end. He led all Mocs with seven touchdown receptions, ranked second with 23 catches and third with 257 receiving yards. James also completed a 28-yard touchdown pass on a trick play.
The Mocs posted a 6-6 record last season and landed in the “others receiving votes” category of HeroSports.com’s preseason FCS top-25 poll.
