Gilmer High swimmers began their season last Friday and already have state qualifying times in tow.
The Swim for a Cause event was held at the Cherokee Aquatic Center. The GHS Bobcats finished second out of five teams in the boys standings and the Lady Cats placed third out of six.
Lady Cat Payton Woodring secured state qualifying times in two events, which included first place in the 100- butterfly (54.64) and 100-yard backstroke (1:04.38).
GHS had four top-three placements in relay events. The girls 400 freestyle team of Morgan White, Olivia Lykins, Emma Schramm and Woodring clocked in at 4:47.50 for first place.
In the boys 200 medley relay, Bobcats Kaden Little, Larz Fowler, Law Lykins and Cole Ellis finished second in 2:18.54. The Bobcats also placed third in the 400 relay with a time of 5:23.12.
Lady Cats Lykins, Schramm, Woodring and White finished third in the girls 200 medley relay at 2:23.98.
White was a runner-up in the 100 freestyle (1:10.74) and placed fifth in the 50 free at 31.17. Fowler secured second place in the boys 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:22.06.
Gilmer’s remaining point scorers included Cadence Mohon 200 free (fourth place, 3:17.49); Fowler 50 free (fourth, 27.39); Cole Ellis 50 free (fifth, 28.32) and 100 free (third, 1:02.88); Little 50 free (seventh, 28.68) and 100 free (fifth, 1:06.20); Jacob Kucera 50 free (ninth, 30.68) and 100 free (sixth, 1:14.39).
Also, Olivia Lykins, 100 backstroke (fifth, 1:28.45); Schramm 100 breast (sixth, 1:39.56) and Kaitlyn Grice 50 free (seventh, 32.42); Ty Cox 100 free (seventh, 1:18.98); Isaiah Jones 100 free (eighth, 1:19.78) and Logan Ellis 100 free (10th, 1:2207)
The 200 free relay team of Lykins, Grice, Sierra Ellis and Mohon placed fourth (2:24.44).
North Paulding took first over the Bobcats, 312-222. Paulding County was third (154), East Paulding fourth (133) and South Paulding finished last (91).
On the girls side behind North Paulding (601) were East (401), Gilmer (254.5), Hiram (201.5), Paulding County (142) and South (68).
