Clear Creek continued its conference basketball slate last week versus the White County Warriors and Dawson County Tigers.
The CCMS Bobcats were at home last Monday versus White, and the seventh and eighth graders won 56-31 and 51-34, respectively. At Dawson Thursday, the seventh grade lost 53-46 ahead of the eight grade’s 46-19 win.
The Lady Cats lost their seventh grade away game at White 34-20 before earning a 49-19 home win over Dawson. The eighth graders notched wins over White and Dawson by respective scores of 52-23 and 32-26.
Lady Cats
The seventh-grade Cats were held scoreless in the first quarter versus White and trailed 25-4 at the half. The Warriors took a 27-10 advantage into the fourth before the Cats scored 10 points for its best quarter.
Jaylee McDaniel scored eight points for CCMS, Sarah Dale and Kenley Thompson both scored five, and Madison Hall added two.
The Cats turned the tables three days later as a decided size advantage kept Dawson at bay. Thompson and McDaniel controlled the post for rebounds and second-chance points.
CCMS went on a 15-3 run to start the game and led 21-11 by the half. Hall gave the Cats an outside presence in the third with a pair of threes as they bumped their lead to 35-19 with a quarter to play.
DCMS was shut out in the fourth as CCMS continued to add to its lead en route to a 30-point win. McDaniel only played the first half and scored 13 points, Hall finished with 10 as Morgan Palmeri ran the offense from the point and added eight more.
The eighth-grade Cats built a commanding lead against White and never looked back. Bree Burnette, Chelsey Griggs and Gracie Pritchett all scored in the opening quarter, and they were joined by Addie Vick and McDaniel in the second.
CCMS led by eight after a quarter and 22-11 at halftime. The Cats continued to pour it on in the third for a 37-21 lead before both offenses slowed in the fourth.
Burnette led all scorers with 13 and Griggs added 11.
Dawson’s eighth graders possessed size and also found success from outside. CCMS struggled to get clean shots early as DCMS opened a 9-3 lead. Five straight Griggs points helped reel the Tigers back in, 11-8. Dawson scored five unanswered before going scoreless over the final 3:19 of the half.
Burnette nailed a three, and McDaniel got a steal for two fast break points and CCMS trailed at the half, 16-14.
In the second half, Dawson’s offense hit a snag, and the Cats took over for a 32-26 win. No individual scoring information was available.
Bobcats
CCMS seventh graders were led by Douglas Callihan (16 points), A.J. Callihan (12) and Peyton Chancey (10) versus White. WCMS did not score in the first quarter as CCMS opened a 16-0 lead that stood at 27-8 by halftime.
The Cats erupted for a 20-point third quarter en route to their 25-point win.
Dawson hit six threes Thursday, and Andrew Chastain was there to make four for CCMS. The score was even after a quarter, and the Cats led 27-22 at halftime.
A strong second half saw the Tigers outscore CCMS 31-19 to overtake the Cats for the win. Douglas Callihan finished with 19 points, Chastain added 12, and Preston McVey tallied 11 in the post.
The eighth-grade Bobcats built a solid lead versus White. After pulling ahead 27-17 at the half, a 21-point third quarter pushed Clear Creek’s lead to 48-25 as they cruised to victory.
Keegen Bryant led all scorers with 21 points as teammate Boston Teague was there for 14 and Jaden Sevcech added 10.
It was much of the same versus Dawson. The Tigers struggled mightily as the Cats pounced for a 27-11 halftime edge. Points continued to come for CCMS in the second half while DCMS fell farther behind.
Bryant and Teague accounted for all of Clear Creek’s second half points aside from two from McVey.
Teague and Bryant scored 13 and 11, respectively, and Sevcech posted 10.
