The Gilmer Bobcats found themselves in the losing column for the first time this basketball season. Gilmer hosted Dawson County last Friday, and the Tigers erased Gilmer’s eight-point lead in the fourth quarter. The Tigers doubled Gilmer’s points in overtime to come away with a 67-63 win.

GHS Lady Cats fall to Lumpkin, Dawson

The Gilmer High Lady Cats continued their region basketball slate last week. GHS was on the road Tuesday against Lumpkin County. The Indians are ranked No. 1 in Class 3A, and the shorthanded Cats fell, 67-27. Gilmer was at home three days later as the Dawson County Tigers came to town.

Team Cartecay was honored at the Peach State Championships with all-star team, individual and coach of the year awards. The Gilmer Cartecay Youth Mountain Bike Team enjoyed distinction and recognition at the Peach State Championships Nov. 6 in Milledgeville, winning the All-Star Team Award.

The Dalton Invitational was the destination for Gilmer High swimmers last Saturday. The GHS Bobcats and Lady Cats combined for 10 top-10 placements and finished seventh and sixth in their respective standings.
Gilmer’s Lewis Mulkey gave White County fits at both ends of the court last Friday. He was a main cog in the Bobcats’ press and added 23 points offensively.

The Gilmer High Bobcats are off to a hot start. GHS cruised through its six nonregion basketball games and picked up two more wins last week to begin region play. Gilmer hosted West Hall Tuesday and smashed the Spartans, 71-43.

The Three Rivers Athletic Club (TRAC) came away with a soccer league title in the boys 14-under division. Ellijay’s 14U Elite posted a 9-0-1 seasonal record in Cherokee County to cap their recreational soccer careers.

Ten teams gathered at the Calhoun Aquatic Center to continue the swim season. The meet was held last Thursday, and the Gilmer High Bobcats (103 points) placed fourth out of eight teams in the boys standings. The Lady Cats were seventh among the 10 girls teams with 36 points.

The Gilmer High Lady Cats kicked off their region basketball schedule with a pair of home games last week. GHS hosted the West Hall Spartans Tuesday and put the game away early as coach Susan Nunn emptied her bench in a 70-15 win.          The tables were turned Friday versus White County.
