Wrestlers return to mat, win tourney

After being sidelined for a week and a half, Gilmer wrestling was back on the mat. GHS welcomed four teams to its home gym last Thursday for the annual Bobcats Duals.

Gilmer Lady Cats claw Ramblers, Bulldogs

While most of their classmates enjoyed a holiday break, the Gilmer High Lady Cats continued their basketball season. The Cats made the 90-plus minute drive to Gordon Lee High School for a Christmas tournament last Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday and came away with two wins.

GHS Bobcats conquer Lassiter Trojans, 58-51

Seasonal illnesses continued to wreak havoc on Gilmer High athletics. The Bobcat basketball team was tasked with a return to the court for three consecutive games while multiple players were still recuperating. GHS made its way south for Pickens’ Christmas tournament Dec. 28-30.

GHS Rocket League places top four out of 207 teams

Gilmer High’s Rocket League team proved to be one of the state’s best for the second time this year. The Georgia High School Association’s E-sports seasons are held in spring and fall of each calendar year.

CCMS grapplers claim 3rd, 4th at league tourney

Clear Creek wrestlers were on the mat Dec. 17-18 as local schools decided who was the top Mountain League team. The two-day event in Dahlonega started with duals Friday. The top-four league teams were in attendance, and CCMS posted a 1-1 record to finish third.

Athletic regions finalized for next 2 years

After the Georgia High School Association’s reclassification process, Gilmer High’s “new” region looks much like it has over the previous two academic years. The GHSA’s two-month process began with placing schools in athletic regions based on enrollment and location.

Dawson County hands Gilmer Bobcats first loss

The Gilmer Bobcats found themselves in the losing column for the first time this basketball season. Gilmer hosted Dawson County last Friday, and the Tigers erased Gilmer’s eight-point lead in the fourth quarter. The Tigers doubled Gilmer’s points in overtime to come away with a 67-63 win.

GHS Lady Cats fall to Lumpkin, Dawson

The Gilmer High Lady Cats continued their region basketball slate last week. GHS was on the road Tuesday against Lumpkin County. The Indians are ranked No. 1 in Class 3A, and the shorthanded Cats fell, 67-27. Gilmer was at home three days later as the Dawson County Tigers came to town.

Team Cartecay riders and coaches honored at state

Team Cartecay was honored at the Peach State Championships with all-star team, individual and coach of the year awards. The Gilmer Cartecay Youth Mountain Bike Team enjoyed distinction and recognition at the Peach State Championships Nov. 6 in Milledgeville, winning the All-Star Team Award.
