One swim meet left to achieve state times

Six teams met in Dalton as the high school swim season hits the homestretch. The North Georgia Championships were held last Saturday, and the host Catamounts won the boys and girls divisions. The Gilmer High Bobcats finished fifth in the boys standings with 76.

GHS wrestling heads to state tourney

When Gilmer High returns to the wrestling mat, it will be at the state tournament. The GHS Bobcats qualified for the state duals last Saturday at home. Gilmer hosted one of eight sectionals in Class 3A and were joined by Appling County, Hephzibah and North Hall. Gilmer, seeded No.

Bobcat basketball beats Pickens for third time

The Gilmer High Bobcats came away with two more basketball wins last week. GHS hosted Cherokee Bluff Tuesday, and the Bears began to pull away in the second quarter and never looked back in a 71-48 region win. Gilmer got back in the win column Friday on the road versus the West Hall Spartans.

Gilmer’s Woodring sets 2 Calhoun pool records

The Northwest Georgia Swim and Dive Championship was hashed out in Calhoun. Gilmer High senior Payton Wooding swims the 100-yard butterfly last Saturday and set a Calhoun Aquatic Center record time in 56.98. She also established a new 100-yard backstroke record of 57.61.

GHS Lady Cats topple Spartans, 52-23

The Gilmer High Lady Cats were on the court for another three-game slate last week. First up were region opponents Cherokee Bluff Tuesday at home before a Friday road trip to West Hall. Gilmer’s offensive struggles continued at home where the Bears notched a 61-34 win.

Gilmer upholds area dominance

The buzz saw that is Gilmer High wrestling cut through another area tournament. The GHS Bobcat were at Dawson County High School last Saturday for the Area 5-3A duals. The Bobcats defeated all four opponents by at least 60 points to win the title and improve their seasonal record to 32-5.

Gilmer High Bobcats improve to 12-4 with 54-48 win over Rebels

The Gilmer Bobcats met a pair of region foes and an old rival last week. Lewis Mulkey GHS hosted East Forsyth Tuesday and held off the Broncos late for a 67-66 win. The Cats struggled mightily Friday at North Hall where the Trojans rolled to victory, 76-30.

Lady Cats fall to No. 2 ranked Fannin County

The Gilmer Lady Cats returned to the court for three more basketball games last week. The Cats hosted East Forsyth Tuesday, and the Broncos pulled away from GHS in the second half for a 53-35 win.
