The Dalton Invitational was the destination for Gilmer High swimmers last Saturday.
The GHS Bobcats and Lady Cats combined for 10 top-10 placements and finished seventh and sixth in their respective standings.
Payton Woodring was the top girls swimmer in the 100-yard freestyle and butterfly with times of 54.32 and 58.34. She was also joined by Kaitlyn Grice, Esther Bowman and Lillie Martin for a fourth-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay at 2:02.00.
Lyra May was the first in the pool ahead of Martin, Woodring and Grice in the 200-yard medley. The quartet placed fifth with a time of 2:27.24.
Martin claimed eighth in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:48.01) and 23rd in the 100 free (1:31.20). Bowman was seventh in the 200 free (2:53.45) and 13th in the 100 free (1:16.82). May placed 11th in the 100-yard backstroke (1:33.52) and 19th in the 50 free (36.98).
Also competing in the 50 free were Grice (15th, 34.39) and Hannah Lowman (24th, 41.75).
The Bobcat relay team of Jacob Kucera, Kaden Little, Larz Fowler and Ian Berry recorded the highest finish on the day in sixth place with a time of 1:49.93. They also teamed up for 10th place in the 200 medley in 2:13.03.
Kucera secured seventh in the 100 fly (1:19.64) and finished 17th in the 50 free (27.13). Berry landed in eighth in the 100 free (59.82) and was 12th in the 50 free (25.91). Ty Cox took eighth in the 200 free (2:45.07).
Michael Sexton turned in a time of 26.24 for 13th in the 50 free, and Little finished 15th in the 100 free (1:03.82).
Dalton defended its home turf and won the boys competition over Jackson County, 302-151. Cherokee (133) was fourth and the Bobcats (64) placed seventh.
Dalton also won on the girls side over Jackson, 216-154. Alexander (152) rounded out the top three and Gilmer (97) was sixth.
GHS will return to the pool Jan. 8 at River Ridge High School.
