An earthquake has shaken homes and people’s nerves across north Georgia. It was strongly felt in Ellijay around 9:15 this morning.
Gilmer County Emergency Management reported that a 4.1 magnitude quake happened near Greenback, Tenn.

Sounding the alarm on suicide rates

Suicide rates are increasing at an accelerated rate in the county. There have been at least four so far this year, according to the Gilmer County Coroner’s Office.
The coroner’s office reported that the county has some of the highest suicide rates in all of Georgia.

Man behind bars, facing child exploitation charges

A former law enforcement officer and Gilmer County resident is behind bars, facing multiple charges of sexual exploitation of children.
The Gilmer County Sheriff’s Office arrested Stephen Hewitt, 69, Wednesday, April 30, following an investigation into alleged child exploitation crimes.
