Gilmer County Schools hosted Family Literacy Night May 2. This year’s theme was “wild about books,” taking families on a safari adventure. Photographed is pre-K student Delilah Collier.
Teachers, community organizations and student groups set up booths around Gilmer High School, letting attendees participate in games, pick up books for all ages and win prizes. Clear Creek Elementary teacher Courtney Trecartin played a word association bag toss game with Oliver Salgado.
Ellijay Elementary teachers Jennifer Payne and Kelsey Davis helped attendees make bookmarks and passed out books.
Gilmer High national art honors society students painted kids’ faces at literacy night, including 10th grader Jaiden Bauer.
Mountain View students Laney Duggan and Leila Chron received butterfly and unicorn face paint before exploring the different booths.
