Fine art showcasing local scenery up for auction

Professional artists from across the region will soon be scattered about the county, painting the picturesque beauty of the north Georgia mountains.  Gilmer Arts is hosting their 11th annual “Plein Air, Art in the Mountains,” that ends with a chance for people to purchase the paintings at auction.

New principals named at MVE, GHS

The Gilmer Board of Education has approved the recommendation for new principals at Gilmer High and Mountain View Elementary to lead those schools. Chandra Teague will take on the role of Mountain View’s principal.

Chick-fil-A reopens

Gilmer residents can hear “my pleasure” once again. A renovated Chick-fil-A has reopened its doors, after fans patiently waited months to order their chicken sandwiches and waffle fries. Chick-fil-A is serving customers once again in East Ellijay after being closed for months to be renovated.

New plans for Ellijay Elementary School

Gilmer County Schools plans to rebuild Ellijay Elementary School. The Board of Education has gotten the ball rolling by approving a resolution to phase out the facility.

An unfortunate, smelly spill

Drivers passing through part of Ellijay may be wondering what the horrible smell was the other day, or what the substance was sticking to their tires. The Gilmer County Sheriff’s Office described it as a “mystery spill.” GCSO issued a slick road alert Monday, April 28, around 11 a.m.

Faith, Hope and Charity holds grant reception

Many nonprofits in Gilmer County rely on the Faith, Hope and Charity Recycle Store (FHC) to support their missions, by providing hundreds of thousands of dollars in grants.

Friends of the Gilmer County Library hosted an author’s forum and market April 24, where they invited seven local writers to speak about their work. Southern humorist Kathi Harper Hill chose to read an excerpt from one of her novels titled “Bensy and Me.”
