A gang of goats escaped from their enclosure over the weekend and were found a whopping 14 miles away from home. The Gilmer County Sheriff’s Office utilized social media to track down their owner.
“If your goats broke out for a joy walk and forgot to leave a note, we found them chillin’ in someone’s yard like they own the place,” GCSO said in a Facebook post Sunday, May 4. “They’re friendly, fluffy and currently trespassing.”
The humorous message was directed toward residents along Chatsworth Highway, where the goats were out adventuring. A few hours later, GCSO notified the community that the rebellious herd of “four-legged lawnmowers” was apprehended, thanks to help from residents who recognized the escapees.
Deputies joked that they now offer a goat return service, after safely wrangling and personally delivering the “hoofed hooligans” back to their owner, 14 miles away from where they were found wandering.
Community members added to the goat jokes started by GCSO, leaving hilarious comments and puns on their two Facebook posts.
“If unclaimed let me know, I’ve got a backyard that needs mowed,” Barbara Loudermilk commented.
Beverly Carter joked, “I’m glad y’all didn’t have to throw the book at them, because they probably would have eaten it.”
Some commenters agreed that the real G.O.A.T.s (“greatest of all time”) are GCSO staff members, for continuing to keep the community safe and putting a smile on their faces with witty alerts.
