Storm blows through county

No deaths or major injuries as a Saturday afternoon storm wreaked havoc in Gilmer County, especially the northwest portion.

American Legion sponsors youth leadership camp

Kids who attend the American Legion’s annual Family Junior Leadership Camp in Georgia know their stuff. In one instance, what they learned in camp about flag etiquette and handling the Stars and Stripes on special occasions came to the fore when they were invited to a flag retirement ceremony.

Ellijay Flag Day is Saturday

Volunteers are still needed to help hold up a giant American flag measuring 50 feet by 100 feet at this Saturday’s Ellijay Flag Day ceremony. Volunteers, who must be at least 15 years old, are asked to meet at the sponsoring Ellijay Lions Club fairgrounds at 9 a.m.

Seamless Summer: meal program ensuring every student eats

Gilmer County Schools’ nutrition department is making sure every student has access to food, even when class is out of session. The annual Seamless Summer program provides children with free meals that can be picked up at locations across the county. The program is funded by the U.S.

An open house at the Tabor House and Civil War Museum in downtown Ellijay this Saturday will feature Cherokee Indian history, items from early settler days and Civil War materials, among other memorabilia. The hours are 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
