Three Gilmer High track and field athletes have punched their ticket to the state meet.
GHS was in Jefferson last Saturday for sectionals. Lady Cat Lilyan Cook turned in Gilmer’s best performance on the day with her second-place throw in the discus (120’ 3”). She also placed fourth in the shot put (34’ 8”). Jennifer Garcia secured eighth in the 3,200 meters at 12:14.28.
For the Bobcats, Cheyne Smith recorded a ninth-place finish in the pole vault (11’ 6”).
Sectional competitors who fell short of qualifying for state included Garcia in the 1,600 (5:31.98, ninth place) and 800 (2:40.15, 13th). Ella Schwartz finished 10th in the 3,200 (13:23.24). The 4x800 meter relay team was 10th (10:43.56).
Lauren Smith claimed 12th in the 800 (2:39.66) and 13th in the 400 (1:05.53). The 4x200 meter relay team placed 15th (2:00.30).
Jeremy Martinez nabbed 14th in the 3,200 (11:46.35) and 15th in the 1,600 (5:08.75). The 4x800 meter relay team also finished 14th (9:11.36). Dawson Richard placed 10th in the discus (128’ 7”).
