Three Gilmer High Lady Cats are set to continue their seasons at the state meet.
GHS was in Fort Valley last Saturday for Class 3A sectionals. Four regions were in attendance, and a top-eight placement was needed to advance to state.
Sophomore Lilyan Cook’s throw of 110’ 4” in the discus allowed her to claim third place and earn a second straight state berth.
Freshman Jennifer Garcia will head to state in both distance running events. She placed third in the 3,200 meters (13:12.77) and fifth in the mile at 5:57.24. Jayla Walker also qualified in the 3,200 with an eighth-place time of 14:26.05.
Bobcats Edward Marietta, Seth Turner, Harrison Chester and Dawson Richard will serve as state alternates after finishing ninth in the 4x800 in 9:05.72.
The Class 3A GHSA Track and Field State Championships will be held in Albany Friday and Saturday.
