Gilmer’s junior varsity basketball teams took the court for their own version of the ETC/Piedmont Mountainside Tipoff Tournament.
The Lady Cats played two games and both were against Fannin County. GHS lost the first game, 43-36. Lucy Ray led the Cats with nine points and Maddie Wright scored eight.
Fannin made eight threes in game two after not making any the day before as they earned a 53-43 victory. FCHS built an early 18-6 lead and were still ahead 31-17 at the half. The Rebels were not as hot from outside in the second half, but GHS could not mount a comeback.
Charley Poteet scored 10 points on the day for GHS. Sarah Mulkey added nine, Brooke Wilson netted seven, Ray, Wright and Kailyn Haddan all scored five and Hali Hice added two.
Both the JV and C-team Bobcats played on the boys side.
The JV topped Fannin County 53-32. GHS turned its 26-22 halftime lead into a 21-point win after the Rebels went cold in the second half. Christian Sumner led the way for GHS with 23 points and Noah Ballew totaled 17.
GHS downed Copper Basin, 49-36. The Bobcats built a solid 30-20 lead at the half and kept the Cougars from within striking distance over the final two quarters.
Ballew netted 20 points on the night, Sumner scored nine and Hunter Watkins added eight.
The C-team Bobcats lost to Fannin 45-43 and defeated Copper Basin, 42-12.
Jacob Becerra scored 12 points for GHS versus Fannin, Ryder Wofford added 11, Myles McCall and Kohan Davis both had seven.
Wofford was there for 22 points in the Bobcats’ victory over Copper Basin and Davis added 10.
Gilmer’s JV and C-team then faced off to end the event, and the JV Bobcats came out on top.
