Following a hiatus last summer because of the COVID-19 pandemic, Gilmer High’s youth sports camps are back.
In previous years, camps have been there to help developing players learn and hone fundamentals, build relationships with coaching staffs and serve as a fundraiser for the varsity sport.
For fall sports, football camp will be held from June 21-24 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Huff-Mosley Memorial Stadium. The cost is $50 and includes a camp T-shirt.
Cheerelading will hold its camp from June 14-17 from 9 a.m. to noon at the Larry Walker Education Center gym. The camp is open to boys and girls from age 4 to those entering sixth grade. The cost is $55 for early registration or $65 the first day of camp, and a discount for multiple children is available.
The Google registration form is available on the GHS Cheerleading Facebook page.
The Gilmer Running Club will meet for morning runs beginning June 7 at River Park. Runners should meet near the covered picnic tables. There is no cost, everyone is welcome to attend, and each day’s run will begin at 8 a.m. Sign up for Remind Blasts by texting @2016grc to 81010.
Girls basketball camp will be held June 7-9 from 9 a.m. to noon at the Gilmer High gym. The camp is open to girls entering kindergarten through eighth grade and the cost is $40 if preregistered and $50 at the door the first day of camp. Registration fliers will be available soon at elementary and middle schools and on the GHS website.
Baseball is running its 18th annual Gilmer Youth Baseball Camp June 11-12 from 8 a.m. to noon at the GHS baseball field. The camp is open to boys ages 6 to 13 or those entering kindergarten through eighth grade. The cost is $50 with a $10 sibling discount.
Campers are advised to wear cleats, baseball pants or sweat pants, a T-shirt and baseball cap and need to bring their own baseball equipment. Email Coach Jeff Thurman at jthurman@gilmerschools.com with any questions.
