Gilmer swimmers keep improving

Gilmer High’s Payton Woodring qualified for two more state swimming events while her Bobcat and Lady Cat teammates continued to shed seconds off their times.

GHS attended a five-team meet last Thursday at Calhoun High School.

Woodring’s qualifying streak continued in the 50-yard freestyle. Her time of 25.47 was good enough for first place and also set a Calhoun Aquatic Center record.

Woodring was at it again when she took first in the 100-yard backstroke at (1:00.71), which also qualified her for the state meet. 

Sadie Bryan recorded a second-place time of 8:26.84 in the 500-yard freestyle, while Isaiah Sharp was third in the 200 freestyle at 2:21.99.

The 400 freestyle team of Kaden Little, Connor Richards, Sharp and Connor Mohon placed third in 4:40.01. Lady Cats Cadence Mohon, Mary Parks, Grice and Woodring captured the same spot in their 400 relay at 5:02.43. 

Remaining individual point scorers included fourth-place Connor Mohon in the 200 individual medley (2:35.62).

Fifth place: Little, 200 freestyle (2:35.25); Cadence Mohon, 200 individual medley (3:24.75) and 100 breaststroke (1:39.97); Sharp, 100 free (58.03) and Guidry, 100 backstroke (1:32.23).

Sixth place: Coleman Ellis, 50 free (28.14) and Connor Mohon, 100 breaststroke (1:18.95). Seventh place: Fowler, 50 free (28.28); Guidry, 50 free (32.80); and Grice, 100 free (1:18.24).

Amber Collins was ninth in the 100 free (1:24.83), and Fowler placed 10th in the 100 free (1:04.22). 

In relays, the boys 200 medley team of Sharp, Fowler, Connor Mohon and Ellis were fifth. (2:06.65). Mary Parks, Guidry, Shyanne Little and Bryan teamed up for sixth place in the 200 freestyle relay (2:21.22).

Richards, Ty Cox, Fowler and Ellis landed in eighth place in the 200 freestyle relay at 2:14.62.

The Bobcats finished third in the boys standings while the Lady Cats landed in fourth.
