CCMS volleyball, softball continue

Clear Creek Middle School has continued its fall sports season as weather and quarantines have allowed.

Softball is currently 0-2, and the Lady Cats were run ruled in three innings by Pickens before an 8-3 loss to Dawson County.

Versus Dawson, CCMS found itself down 5-0 in the fourth inning. The Cats were able to get some momentum going, but the game was called because of time.

Clear Creek’s first opportunity to score came in the second inning when Cheyanne Medlin advanced to third base on a throwing error. However, she was stranded in scoring position.

In the fourth inning, Jaylee McDaniel ripped a double and scored on Gracie Gaitanoglou’s hit that crept just under shortstop’s glove. Lily Fortune reached base in the fifth inning and stole her way all around the base paths for a run.

McDaniel also pitched for CCMS and fanned nine batters.

“We began making some noise, but time expired,” said CCMS coach Tina McDaniel. “Since then, we have had rainouts vs. White County, Towns County and Lumpkin County. Unfortunately, Union County had to postpone, as well, as most of their team was under quarantine due to COVID. We are scheduled to make up these games in the weeks ahead.”

Volleyball currently has a 2-3 overall record. Last week the Lady Cats defeated White County 2-1 while losing to Lumpkin, 2-0.

CCMS won versus White in the second and third sets by scores of 26-24 and 15-11. White took the opening set, 25-23. LCMS claimed its victory in straight sets, 25-17 and 25-22.

A week prior, CCMS split with league foes Pickens and Dawson. The Dragonettes won with scores of 25-18 and 25-14. It took the Cats two sets versus Dawson in a 29-27 and 25-18 victory.
