Mrs. Shirley F. Long

Mrs. Shirley F. Long, 81, of Ellijay, died Saturday, Dec. 14, 2019. She was born June 8, 1938, in Gilmer County, to the late Freeman and Elzie Chastain Long. She was a homemaker.  She is preceded in death by husband, Dee Long; son, Chris Long; daughter, Jennifer Long; and brother, Leon Long.

Mrs. Mary Clay Daves

Mrs. Mary Clay Daves, 88, of Chatsworth, died Friday, Dec. 13, 2019, at Chatsworth Health Care. She was a member of Flat Creek Baptist Church in Ellijay. She loved her family and enjoyed cooking, sewing, camping and fishing.

David William Holt

Mr. David William Holt, beloved husband, father and grandfather, died peacefully under hospice care in Tampa, Fla., Thursday, Dec. 5, 2019.   He was born in Atlanta, May 27, 1941, to Euman Holt and Ammorette Folsom Holt (both deceased).

Edward ‘Eddie’ Sanford

Mr. Edward “Eddie” Sanford, 66, of Ellijay, died Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2019. He was born July 7, 1953, in Gilmer County to the late Homer and Dorothy Goble Sanford. He worked in construction.

Mrs. Brenda Kay Smith

Mrs. Brenda Kay Smith, 76, of Woodstock, formerly of Ellijay, died Saturday, Dec. 7, 2019. She was born April 27, 1943, in Madison, W. V.a., to the late Simeon Dolin and  Vivian Callison Dolin.  She was a graduate of Scott High School and a member of Liberty Baptist Church.

Thomas Searcey Hice

Mr. Thomas S. Hice, 87, of Auburn, died Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2019, at Piedmont Hospital in Athens. He was born May 5, 1932, to the late Charlie and Alice Searcey Hice, of Cherry Log. He is preceded in death by wife, Betty Brantley Hice; brothers, Ewiel E. Hice Sr.

Lamar Chestnut

Mr. Lamar Chestnut, 80, of Fayetteville, passed away Thursday, Nov. 28, 2019. He was born in Gadsden, Ala., Oct. 26, 1939, to the late Guy and Evelyn Chestnut. He grew up a true southern boy on a cattle and cotton farm alongside his two brothers and two sisters.

Loyd ‘Papa’ Mulkey

Mr. Loyd “Papa” Mulkey, 83, of Ellijay, died Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2019. He was born Oct. 11, 1936, in Pickens County, to the late Grady and Lee Hicks Mulkey. He was retired from Gold-Kist and was a member of Zion Hill Baptist Church.

Linda Stover Van Fleet

It is with great sadness that the family of Linda Stover Van Fleet announces her passing Friday, Dec. 6, 2019, at the age of 75 years.  She was born March 6, 1944, in Marietta, to the late Arvil Woodrow and Cora Inez Stover (Hughes). She resided in Maryville, Tenn.

Mrs. Viola Corbin Parks

Mrs. Viola Corbin Parks,  92, of Ellijay, died Thursday, Dec. 5, 2019. She was born Feb. 14, 1927, in Ellijay, to the late Franklin Elsberry and Florence Rosette (Wheeler) Corbin. She was a member of Flat Branch Baptist Church and was a retiree of Robert Shaw.
