House at Pooh Corner opening at GHS Theatre

The comical creatures of the Hundred Acre Wood will be brought to life when Gilmer High School (GHS) Theatre’s young actors and actresses present their first show of the new year. The House at Pooh Corner will be presented at the GHS Linda Miller Theater Friday, Jan. 24-Sunday, Jan. 26.

First steps taken for elections

Qualifying fees have been set by the Gilmer County Board of Commissioners, the first step in getting ready for candidates to sign up and run for office. Commissioners set the fees at a special called meeting Jan. 14. Local candidates will qualify for office the week of March 2.

Storm leaves many without power

A major storm passed through Gilmer County Saturday night and left many in its wake without power. “Beginning around 5 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 11,  Amicalola EMC experienced power outages in nine of the 10 counties we serve,” said Stacey Fields, director of Public Relations, Amicalola EMC.

Coosawattee brush fire battled

A fast-moving brush fire inside Coosawattee River Resort was contained and knocked out by Gilmer Fire and Rescue and Georgia Forestry Service crews last Thursday. The fire spanned a wooded area around the neighborhoods of Pacer Court and Villa Lane.

Note threatening gun violence left at GHS
