Times-Courier Bring a Bundle drive sees best year yet

More donations than ever before were received from readers who contributed to the Times-Courier’s 2019 Bring a Bundle Clothing Drive. Donations collected through November and December totaled 2,463 items. Contributors were able to claim a year’s subscription to the newspaper per each bundle donated.

Sales retires after 40 years with Gilmer Fire and Rescue

Perhaps the biggest takeaway a retiring Gilmer County firefighter/EMT has from a 40-year career in public safety is the level of dedication the work requires. “It’s a 24-hours-a-day, 365-days-a-year type of thing,” said Mike Sales.

Adulting 101 classes among new programs

Today’s adults are busy people, but there are still times when meals need to be prepared and checkbooks need to be balanced. Those are just two areas of focus that will be included in an upcoming series of classes at the Gilmer County Library.

A husband and wife duo who’ve entertained audiences at several Ellijay events and venues will soon travel back across the mountain from Chatsworth when Trailer Hippies, the acoustic pairing of Tommy and Sylvia Davis, touch down at the George Link Jr. Gilmer Arts Playhouse Saturday, Jan. 11.

Gang member arrested in Gilmer County

In a Monday morning raid, Gilmer County deputies, along with U.S. Marshals and the Cherokee SWAT team, arrested a member of the Ghost Face Gangsters. Travis Lee Zimmerman, 30, was a fugitive wanted in Georgia and Tennessee, according to a release from the Gilmer County Sheriff’s Office.

Toys for Tots effort reaches more than 1,100 local children

Another Toys for Tots campaign for Gilmer County families has wrapped and final numbers show that 1,140 children received toys as part of the 2019 community outreach effort. “Each child from newborn to 18 years old also got some stocking stuffers in addition to their toys and puzzle or game.

Elf hunt comes to an end; Stitches in custody

The Times-Courier is happy to report that after an intense few weeks and an ongoing elf hunt, Stitches has been apprehended.  Stitches began his crime spree after Light Up Ellijay, attacking our beloved Christmas tree, and persisted with several more assaults on local agencies.
