As part of its efforts to promote recycling and litter reduction in the community, Keep Gilmer Beautiful now accepts worn American flags ready for retirement.

A $4.4 million grant from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) will allow local telecommunications provider ETC to expand its broadband internet service to several areas of the county that are considered underserved.

TSPLOST set for May ballot

Gilmer County voters will see a TSPLOST question on the ballot in May. Commissioners voted unanimously to approve the details of the TSPLOST, short for Transportation Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax, at a special meeting Feb. 6.

East Ellijay council approves TSPLOST agreement

Members of the East Ellijay City Council approved an intergovernmental agreement Tuesday, Feb. 4, that will be used for distribution of funds should a TSPLOST (Transportation Special Local Option Sales Tax) ballot item be passed by voters in the May 19 General Primary election.

New home for Wally

A pup who now has a permanent home was, quite possibly, the most beloved stray animal in Gilmer County until being adopted last month.  His new owner will keep the first part of the dog’s name, inspired by the retail store where he became a subject of outreach and concern for customers.

Kharisma Jazzmatic Funk brings Valentine grooves to playhouse

After boxes of candy have been opened and flowers have been watered, a 10-piece band with local members will light up an Ellijay stage when Kharisma Jazzmatic Funk performs at the George Link Jr. Gilmer Arts Playhouse the day after Valentine’s.

Emergency shelter open at Gilmer Civic Center

Gary Watkins, of Gilmer Fire and Rescue, stands at the emergency shelter now open at the Gilmer Civic Center, 1561 South Main Street. According to Gilmer Public Safety, the shelter is  for anyone who is displaced from their home as a result of today's weather activity.
