My name is Reagan Griggs Pritchett and I am running for chief magistrate. I, like my namesake, am a Republican with conservative values. I am a strong proponent of the Second Amendment and the rights of the unborn. I have a strong love of our country and most importantly, the Constitution that has been its supreme law of the land for over 230 years.

A multigeneration citizen and native of Gilmer County, I am the daughter of Maynard and Denise Griggs. I am married to Kevin Pritchett, the son of Doug and Lynne Pritchett. He is also a lifelong resident and now a member of the Ellijay City Council. A member since childhood, we attend the First United Methodist Church of Ellijay.

I am an honor graduate of Gilmer High School and also graduated with honors from the University of North Georgia. I earned a Masters in Political Science from Georgia State University. I am currently a Ph.D. candidate at Georgia State. My Ph.D is in Political Science with a concentration in Public Law. I also currently teach American Government undergraduate courses at Georgia State University. If elected, the office of Chief Magistrate would be my only job, as this office demands someone who will be readily accessible.

Government and the law are both my knowledge and my passion. While in college, I worked for the Georgia General Assembly during the 2014 session. During my time at the Georgia Capitol, I worked for the House Transportation, Public Safety and Homeland Security, and Governmental Affairs Committees. That year, a historic gun bill, or the “The Safe Carry Protection Act,” made its way through the committee I worked for. It was signed right here in our hometown by Gov. Nathan Deal. I was there during the signing and was proud to be a very small part of it.

My father is a retired post commander of the Georgia State Patrol. Before pursuing a passion for teaching, my mother was a special agent for the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. Being the daughter of both a law enforcement officer and a teacher taught me the importance of the intersectionality of toughness, fairness and compassion. While traffic law and accident investigation are quite different from the office of the magistrate, being the daughter of a state trooper  allowed me to develop a deep appreciation for both the law and law enforcement.

As a candidate for chief magistrate, I want to build on the legacy and foundation left by those who have previously held the office. As someone who grew up in Gilmer County, I believe that I have the honesty, integrity and solid work ethic that is required by this position. Growing up here, I learned solid Republican and Conservative values such as respecting those who have come before you, the value of hard work, that integrity goes a long way and  being a genuine person who cares about others actually means something.

As a lifelong native, I am fully invested in Gilmer County. I want to give back to the community that helped shape me into the woman I am today. I want to serve the people who have made such a difference in my upbringing and journey to adulthood. This is my home and my community, and I wish to be an active member of its future as your future chief magistrate.
