No parking, crosswalk curing on River Street

Recent changes in getting around downtown Ellijay include turning a line of parallel parking spaces on River Street into a no parking zone and temporary barricades put up to protect a newly repaired crosswalk at the intersection of River Street and North Avenue.

It looks like Chipotle might be the next restaurant chain to set up shop in East Ellijay.  The fast Mexican grill dining chain has expressed interest in the former Krystal location at 124 Highland Crossing, confirmed Larry Callahan, of the East Ellijay Planning and Zoning office.

Children’s book has Ellijay apple theme

A retired teacher turned author uses Ellijay’s apple heritage for the backdrop of her first children’s book.  The title character of “Ellie J’s Apples” is 6-year-old Ellie J. Marsh, who lives on an apple orchard in Gilmer County, said author Nan Flickinger.

Seamless Summer meal program back for July

The Gilmer County School System has provided meals at no cost as the Seamless Summer feeding program enters its second month. Breakfast and lunch are available Monday through Thursday at six locations throughout the county and are open to those who are 18 years old and younger.

\Attorney George W. Weaver, who served as the first district attorney for the Appalachian Judicial Circuit, died following a battle with leukemia. Weaver was the husband of Appalachian Chief Judge Brenda S. Weaver. Gilmer County is part of the Appalachian Judicial District.
