Talking Rock man dies in motorcycle accident

A Talking Rock man was killed and his passenger seriously injured in an accident on Hwy. 515. Joshua Neighbors, 41, of Talking Rock, was riding his motorcyle south on Hwy. 515, with Jennifer Ledford, 44, of Ellijay, as his passenger May 25, according to the Georgia State Patrol report.

Gilmer Arts awarded $100K state grant

A $100,000 state grant will put the local arts council one step closer to building a new gallery.  Gilmer Arts was recently named the recipient of the one-time grant allocated in state House Bill 915 and administered through the Georgia Council for the Arts.

GED grad to pursue art career

A student who has attained his General Educational Development (GED) diploma with help from the Gilmer Learning Center is going to use his degree to pursue a career in art animation.

Three more tornadoes confirmed

The National Weather Service office in Peachtree City has confirmed that three other tornadoes struck Gilmer County the night of May 8. The weather service previously confirmed one EF1 tornado in the Ellington Road area was part of the severe storm system, which hit just before midnight.

Some insurance rates may rise following audit

A recent insurance risk audit of Gilmer County is causing some insurance premiums to go up, while others may stay the same or improve. “Every five years we go through an ISO (Insurance Services Office Inc.) rating,” said Gilmer County Fire Chief Daniel Kauffman.

TCSG announces $3M funding for GCCA

The State Board of the Technical College System of Georgia (TCSG) approved the allocation of more than $3 million to establish a new college and career academy in Gilmer County during its May board meeting.
