- Each local talent had a table displaying their books at the forum, held in the library’s basement community room, that they also could sign for fans. “My book, “Dear Dad,” was the fulfillment of a promise I made to my dad,” author Kathy Williams said about responding to letters he wrote while serving in World War II. “It ended up being a memoir, as well as a historical document.”
- Retired Florida officer Jeff Shaw showcased his memoir titled “Who I Am: The Man Behind the Badge,” as well as his crime fiction trilogy. “I wrote some very simple letters for my kids about who I am and what I did while I was working,” Shaw said. “My stories I started writing for my children became my memoir … It’s a story of what we as police officers see every day.”
- Lauren Sabia/Reporter Nan Flickinger signing her children’s book “Ellie J’s Apples.” Additional authors not photographed include Jo Loveday, who wrote her debut novel titled “Terminal Lucidity” and another to be released soon. Maria Encinias, a member of the Friends of the Gilmer County Library board and author of “Living Without Bubble Wrap,” also spoke at the forum.
- Larry Turner recalled where his literary journey began, leading him to write eight books so far, as well as his purpose. “My goal was not so much to earn royalties, but to leave a legacy to my grandchildren and great-grandchildren of what their grandfather had done during his life,” Turner said. “That he was more than the goat and chicken farmer from Ellijay, Georgia, they had come to know.”
