Marshall prevails in runoff election

Uncertified results from Tuesday's runoff election show John Marshall is the winner of the race for Gilmer County Post 2 Commissioner. Marshall finished with 3,028 votes, while Tom Whatley finished with 1,531 votes. Look for certified election results in next week's Times-Courier.

County feels bite of rising gas prices

With fuel prices rising, Gilmer County is expected to exceed its budget for fuel before the end of the year. “I don’t think there is going to be a line item in any budget for fuel that isn’t going to be blown out of the water,” said Gilmer County Chair Charlie Paris. “They’re horrible.

Forging ahead on a hot metal horse

A steel sculpture that recently went up in Johns Creek brings an Ellijay sculptor and blacksmith’s inspiration of horses full circle. Metal artist Eric Strauss officially unveiled his 12-foot, 4,000-pound creation, “Entwined Strength,” at a dedication ceremony in Johns Creek last weekend.

Commissioners deal with paving, other issues

At a meeting where commissioners dealt with several issues, the board locked in an asphalt paving contract for 2022. Colditz Trucking Inc. was awarded a bid of $2,975,177 for paving all or portions of Legion Road, Flat Branch Road, Roberts Ridge Road, Turniptown Road and Mulkey Road.
