Early voting hours extended

Gilmer County voters have an additional hour to cast their ballots in person each day this week. The voter registrar’s office announced that in-person early voting for the June 21 runoff election will be extended by one hour Monday, June 13-Friday, June 17. The new times are 8:30 a.m.-6 p.m.

Water board OKs $8.5 million budget for 2022-23

The Ellijay-Gilmer County Water and Sewerage Authority board approved an $8.5 million operating budget for the water authority’s 2022-23 fiscal year when meeting Tuesday, May 31. The budget for the fiscal year starting July 1 is up from last year’s initial $7.8 million budget.

BMT closer to becoming National Scenic Trail

The Benton MacKaye Trail Association (BMTA) is one big step closer to its goal of having the near 300-mile hiking path declared a National Scenic Trail.

Early voting for the upcoming June 21 runoff election will start Monday, June 13, and last until Friday, June 17. Times are 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. each day. All early voting will be at the Gilmer County Voter Registrar’s Office, 1 Broad Street.

Property values, preliminary tax digest up from last year

Total residential property values reflected by recently-mailed county assessment notices have increased by 31 percent, while this year’s preliminary gross tax digest figure is up by 26 percent, according to the Gilmer County Assessors Office.
