Colleagues of a departed Appalachian Judicial Circuit judge who passed away suddenly last week are remembering his dedication, compassion and willingness to help others. Judge John Worcester passed away Thursday, Aug. 17. He was 74.

Bike ride will benefit late firefighter’s family

A memorial bike and vehicle ride will raise money for the family of a Gilmer County firefighter/EMT who passed away suddenly last week. The ride in remembrance of Eric “Tigger” Maddox will be held Sunday, Aug. 27.

Man sentenced to life in prison

A jury found a Gilmer County man guilty of murder, and he was sentenced to life in prison without parole. Joshua Robert Weaver, 40, of Ellijay, was charged with murder and aggravated assault in the death of his uncle.
